GROUND GLASS OPACITIES: SIGN OF CAUTION IN TYPICAL INTERSTITIAL PNEUMONIA

نویسندگان

چکیده

Typical interstitial pneumonia (IP) is mainly the fibrotic form of lung disease. In some cases with typical IP, a certain amount ground-glass opacity (GGO) can be detected on high-resolution computed tomography, however, important issues, such as co-existence GGO and still require further investigation by biopsy. After diagnosis anti-fibrosis treatment usually considered. Here, we hypothesized that in IP could manifestation an acute inflammatory attack requiring immunosuppressive therapy or indicator ongoing contact trigger factors initiate pathological reactions IP.

Differential diagnosis and management of focal ground-glass opacities.

Focal pulmonary ground-glass opacities (GGOs) can be associated with bronchioloalveolar carcinoma. The present retrospective study aimed to test the validity of a multistep approach to discriminate malignant from benign localised (focal) GGOs, identifies useful diagnostic features on computed tomography (CT), and suggests appropriate management guidelines. A stepwise approach, including oral an...

Differential diagnosis and management of focal pulmonary ground-glass opacities.

In a recent article printed in the European Respiratory Journal, INFANTE et al. [1] validated a stepwise approach including oral antibiotics, follow-up computed tomography and computed tomography-guided biopsy for the differential diagnosis and management of focal pulmonary ground-glass opacities (GGOs). Although a retrospective study, their work provides critical information on discrimination ...

Usual interstitial pneumonia: typical, possible, and “inconsistent” patterns

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a severe and progressive chronic fibrosing interstitial lung disease, a definitive diagnosis being established by specific combinations of clinical, radiological, and pathological findings. According to current international guidelines, HRCT plays a key role in establishing a diagnosis of usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP). Current guidelines describe three UIP ...

Image subtraction facilitates assessment of volume and density change in ground-glass opacities in chest CT.

OBJECTIVES To study the impact of image subtraction of registered images on the detection of change in pulmonary ground-glass nodules identified on chest CT. MATERIALS AND METHODS A cohort of 33 individuals (25 men, 8 women; age range 51-75 years) with 37 focal ground-glass opacities (GGO) were recruited from a lung cancer screening trial. For every participant, 1 to 3 follow-up scans were av...
